    Discover the authentic village way of life

    People drop in for a bite to eat, a coffee, to buy a newspaper or to catch up with the gossip. But you can also go there to sample a local dish or find out about places to visit in the area. Welcome to the Bistrots de Pays, a selection of cafés, estaminets and bar-restaurants that are bringing our little villages back to life.

    A national quality mark

    ‘Bistrot de Pays’ is a national quality mark. When a café owner signs up to it, he or she undertakes to adhere to a quality charter and to offer:

     

    • A warm welcome
    • A ‘Bistrot de Pays’ dish or set menu (if they serve food)

      Occitania has more than 50 Bistrots de Pays all over the region and is one of France’s most active regions when it comes to supporting this venture. 
      A Bistrot de Pays is open all year round and is sometimes the only shop in the village. It represents an entire way of life, rooted in the flavours of the local terroir and the local social scene.
