    The châteaux of Gascony

    In Gascony, the former province where armagnac was invented in the 15th century, the châteaux have a pleasing tendency to blend in with the surrounding vineyards. This is clearly the case for the châteaux at Cassaigne and Monluc for example.

    Very close to Flaran Abbey, a Great Tourist Site in Midi-Pyrénées, you can visit the elegant Château de Cassaigne (13th century): this former residence of the bishops of Condom is today one of the main centres for the production of armagnac.

      Near Auch, the Château de Lavardens (12th to 18th century) is an uncut diamond floating on a sea of little side valleys. Saved from ruin by a group of enthusiasts, it has become a renowned centre for art thanks to major events such as exhibitions dedicated to Camille Claudel and Dali.
